Monday night's weather was a show with Sea-Tac recording 0.40” of snow, along with thunder, hail, and rain. This Valentines’ Day the sun has been bright, we can ignore the radar for a bit and look at the almanac.
Monday marks 129 years of weather data on Valentine’s Day. Every Feb. 14 for the last 13 years, Seattle has had precipitation. The most rain in the gauge was in 1939 at 1.40”.
But, how about snow?
Similar to Tuesday morning, there have been trace amounts of snow recorded on this date, nine times for the Seattle area since 1894 but, that doesn’t include the times it was an accumulating snow day!
Snowfall of .10” or more only happened six times.
The highest amount recorded was 11 inches in the year 1923. Our most recent Valentine's snow was in 2021 with 1.3” measured in Seattle and a record 8.90” at Sea-Tac!
When it comes to the coldest Valentine's Day, we came close with Tuesday's chilly temperatures. But the coldest ever was in1923 when the high was freezing! 32; the warmest was in 1991 at 65.
On average, Valentine's Day in Seattle has a high temperature of 48 and a low temperature of 37 with precipitation at 0.13” as the typical amount Seattle experiences.
