It may be in September, it may be different, but the Apple Cup continues.

If the 2024 edition is any indication, the rivalry hasn't lost a morsel of its dramatics and luster. While a five-game extension of the rivalry was signed last fall, we now know when we can see the next installment of this great rivalry.

Washington State announced it is hosting the Huskies on Sept. 20, 2025, at Gesa Field in Pullman. The Huskies will host the 2026 and 2028 Apple Cups, while WSU will be the home team in 2025 and 2027 after this year's game was played at a neutral site in Lumen Field. The games are all agreed upon, but the dates will be scheduled ahead of each year, as we saw for the 2025 version of the matchup. It may be in September, it may be different, but the Apple Cup continues.

The Cougs won the 2024 Lumen Field game 24-19 and are currently 5-1 on the season. Washington is 4-3 in 2024 after a road loss in Big Ten play at Iowa.

The five-year extension of the rivalry was part of an agreement reached before UW departed the Pac-12 for the Big 10 with an eye to continuing the Apple Cup for the foreseeable future. Washington, despite losing to Washington State in 2024, leads the all-time rivalry with 76 wins to just 34 for the Cougs and six total ties.

While Washington's non-conference slate is set (Colorado State, Washington State, and UC Davis), the Coug's schedule is still being worked out in total after an agreement with the Mountain West was opted out of (and then the Pac-12 raided the conference).

WSU has seven of its 12 total games for 2025 set, which includes a matchup with Oregon State that doesn't have a date yet, but also scheduled matchups with Idaho on Aug. 30, San Diego State on Sept. 6, at North Texas on Sept. 13, Washington on Sept. 20, at Virginia on Sept. 27, and at Ole Miss on Oct. 11.

Filling the rest of the WSU schedule could prove tricky, and the conference shake-ups have left the Cougs with roughly half of its season yet to be scheduled, while most other FBS teams have just one slot, two at most needed to be filled.

Still, the Apple Cup isn't one of those games, and it returns to Pullman for the first time since 2022 next fall.
