Memorial Stadium’s renovation now includes additional changes to Seattle Center to create more green space for community gatherings and updated breezeways in and out of the public park.

The One Roof Partnership, in addition to Seattle Public Schoolsand the city of Seattle, is now targeting a groundbreaking in June or July of 2025, with an opening date targeted for 2027.

The new designs were officially unveiled in a small public forum last week but have not been widely distributed. One Roof has been quietly soliciting donations for the project which has been years in the making, and is also rehabilitating and enhancing the decades-old Memorial Wall. There is now a planned grand entrance on both sides of the wall and green spaces on each side of the stadium.

The breezeways that are currently on the west side, adjacent to the International Foundation, and the south side, where World War II-era barbed wire can still be seen, will also be eliminated and rebuilt. The new designs show they will be replaced with open-air promenades that also include architecture that is a subtle hint to the complex and distinctive towers of the Pacific Science Center, designed by Seattle-born architect Minoru Yamasaki.

Seattle voters approved the stadium’s renovation in 2022 as part of a levy, which required the cooperation of Seattle and a private developer. The District will continue to own the property, and One Roof will help manage it as a not-for-profit building.
