Pierce County deputies tried to stop a car with a suspect inside, but he and the driver ended up barricading themselves inside a Graham home, sparking a standoff.

At 12:45 p.m. on Monday, deputies tried to pull over a car at 97th Ave. and 204th St. E. Authorities said a suspect from a rape and assault was a passenger in the vehicle.

Instead of stopping, the woman driving the car took off and fled to a house at a dead end on 202nd St. Ct. E.

The driver and the suspect then ran into the home and refused to come out, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department

Deputies knew the suspect had been armed in the past, and because he was wanted for violent crimes, they called the Pierce County SWAT team to the home.

Just as deputies were about to push in the front door, the suspect opened it and surrendered.

Both the suspect and the driver were arrested.

The woman who was driving was arrested for investigation of obstruction for not pulling over and refusing to come out of the house.
