87-year-old stabs 86-year-old wife to death in Bellevue's first homicide of 2024

In Bellevue's first homicide case of the year, Bellevue police said an 87-year-old man has been arrested for stabbing and killing his 86-year-old wife.

The incident happened inside the Sunrise Senior Living facility in the 15200 block of NE 20th Street in Bellevue’s Crossroads neighborhood. Callers reportedly heard screams coming from a residence inside the facility.

Responding officers forcibly entered the residence and promptly detained an 87-year-old man. A n 86-year-old woman with multiple stab wounds to the chest was discovered when police entered.

Bellevue police and fire attempted lifesaving care, but the victim was declared dead at the scene. The suspect, the 87-year-old man, was placed in custody without issue, police said.

Sunrise Senior Living, the shelter where the incident occurred, provided KOMO News with the following statement:

"We are deeply saddened by this situation. Our thoughts and prayers are with the loved ones impacted, and we are committed to supporting our residents and team members, as needed, during this time. We are fully cooperating with law enforcement during their work on this domestic situation. We are unable to provide further details and encourage any additional inquiries about the investigation to be directed to the Bellevue Police Department."

Bellevue police said this is an evolving incident and a homicide investigation has been launched.
